AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, announces that it has been selected by INEOS New Planet BioEnergy to help deliver the first commercial-scale advanced bio-energy facility to use the INEOS Bio technology.

The value of AMEC’s contract has not been disclosed.

AMEC is providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the US$100 million commercial-scale facility in Vero Beach, Florida, which will produce eight million gallons of third generation bio-ethanol per year from renewable biomass, including yard, wood, vegetative, and municipal solid wastes. The facility will also generate clean renewable power for export to the Florida market. The plant is scheduled to be operational in 2012.

“This important contract reinforces AMEC’s position on the leading edge of developments in biofuels,” said Tim Gelbar, President of AMEC’s Power & Process Americas business. “With the growth in demand for low carbon fuels, our biofuels experience and expertise continues to expand, helping our customers, like INEOS Bio, address worldwide energy challenges to meet their objectives.”

Peter Williams, Chief Executive Officer of INEOS Bio said: “This is a key milestone in bringing INEOS Bio’s advanced Bioenergy technology to the US and global markets to help address the world’s waste management challenges. We offer a sustainable solution for energy independence which breaks the food-for-fuel chain and provides a plentiful supply of renewable bio-energy for new and developed markets.”

Mark Niederschulte, Chief Operating Officer of INEOS Bio added: “INEOS Bio’s partnership with AMEC brings us one step closer to opening the state-of-the-art BioEnergy Center in Indian River County, where it will bring both renewable energy and new green jobs. We’re confident that AMEC’s experience and expertise in the biofuel sector will help INEOS New Planet BioEnergy accomplish a successful and timely completion of the much anticipated BioEnergy Center.”

The facility will be the first to use INEOS Bio’s advanced BioEnergy technology, the world’s leading feedstock-flexible technology for the production of both bioethanol and renewable power.

AMEC’s biofuels work is the latest progression in a century of experience in energy production technology – covering oil and gas, hydroelectric, wind, solar, biomass gasification, biodiesel and ethanol. The company is working on several ethanol and biodiesel projects, as well as the development of further relationships with technology providers and other market partners.
