Saudi Aramco has made two new oil and gas discoveries as announced by Ali I. Al-Naimi, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The company's new Abqaiq-480 gas well, in recent tests, flowed 40 million cubic feet per day of nonassociated gas from two Khuff reservoirs at depths up to more than 16,000 feet (4,877 meters). A third promising Khuff reservoir indicated presence of gas, which will be tested later.
Abqaiq-480 is located 27 miles (43 kilometers) north of Abqaiq and 20 miles (32 km) west of the company's Dhahran headquarters in the Eastern Province. It is in the northern dome of the Abqaiq field.
The other discovery - the Ghazal-15 well - began flowing crude oil on June 23 over 'Unayzah-B Reservoir at 13,920 feet (4,233 meters). The well also extended the gas reserve in the 'Unayzah-A Reservoir. The well is located in the Central Province, 93 miles (150 km) southeast of Riyadh and 56 miles (90 km) west of the Haradh area of the giant Ghawar Field. Ghazal-15 is located in the Ghazal area of the Mazalij Field complex.
Abd Allah S. Al-Saif, senior vice president of Exploration and Producing, commended the efforts of the exploration teams and thanked them for their outstanding achievements. He expressed confidence that they would continue to bolster the Kingdom's reserves of oil and gas.
