Calgary, Alberta, Calvalley Petroleum, operator of Block 9, Republic of Yemen, is pleased to report that drilling operations at the Hiswah-3 appraisal well have now been completed and that production testing will start over the next few days.

The Hiswah-3 well was drilled with a vertical pilot hole to gather reservoir data and a sidetrack horizontal well bore to test the productive capability of the fractured carbonate reservoir of the Saar Formation. The vertical well bore was drilled to a total depth of 1302 meters. The reservoir was encountered 14 meters high to prognosis at 1105 meters and wire-line logs indicate 60 meters of gross oil column and a preliminary estimate of net oil pay of about 54m.

Three 9 meter cores were also obtained from the reservoir section and are currently undergoing analysis to determine reservoir properties. The well was then sidetracked and an 8 ½” horizontal well bore was drilled to a total depth of 1542 meters with a 372 meter horizontal section within the oil bearing, fractured, Saar Formation. The horizontal well bore will now be production tested.

Hiswah-3 was the first of three planned appraisal wells into the Hiswah oil pool. Each well will be comprised of a vertical well to gather reservoir data, and a horizontal well bore to test the productive capability of the fractured limestone reservoirs of the Saar Formation. On completion of testing operations at Hiswah-3, the rig will move to the Hiswah-4 location to drill the Hiswah-4 appraisal well.
