Egypt-Israel Gas Pipeline to Be Finished Within WeekSource: Ahram Online 7/11/2011, Location: Africa
The pipeline supplying gas to Israel and Jordan is expected to be fully repaired by the end of this week, according to MENA, the official news agency. On 4 July, saboteurs blew up a pipeline carrying gas from Egypt to Israel and Jordan, forcing a shutdown in the gas-flow. It was the third attack since early February on the pipeline. Previous explosions on 27 April and 5 February closed the pipeline for several weeks.
Misr Insurance company estimated that LE28 million (US$ 4.75 million) are to be paid in damages to the Egyptian Natural Gas Co for the first attack in February. Misr has not yet announced estimates for Aprilís and Julyís attack.
Israel, however, cannot claim compensation for the disruption in gas flow, as the blast was the result of "unforeseen circumstances" which give the country no legal grounds with which to sue Egypt, according to Hany Dahy, head of the executive office at Egypt's Petroleum Authority.
