Authorities are installing automatic oil detection systems, worth KD 60 million, at the country's three oil refineries, said the Board Chairman of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). Execution of the project of setting up the automatic sensors has begun, said Fahad Al-Ajmi, also the Managing Director of the KPC, in a statement after opening the sixth international conference and fair for the environmental and health safety and vocational development, held late.
The flames' detection devices are being set up at the refineries of Al-Ahmadi, Al-Shuaiba and Mina Abdullah, he added. On the planned project to build a fourth oil refinery in the country, Al-Ajmi indicated preparations for launching the venture had been taken. "We are waiting for the green light to begin the execution," he affirmed. Relevant authorities have been devoting greater concern to ensuring safety for personnel in the oil sector, allocating larger budgets for this purpose and training personnel to deal with emergencies and accidents, he said.
Shedding light on accomplishments of the KPC and its subsidiary companies in the field of health, safety and environment, Al-Ajmi noted that they have earned the widely-acclaimed ISO certificate in appreciation for their distinguished effort in this field. The KPC has succeeded in cutting proportion of accidents by 150 percent. In turn, Al-Shuaiba noticeably reduced emanation of sulfuric oxide and Kuwait Oil Company cut burning of the affiliate gas by one percent.
