iSmithers and Smithers RAPRA will be bringing the crème of the oil and gas community under one roof for two days of original technical papers, relaxed networking and a special conference drinks reception. The much anticipated fifth High Performance Elastomers conference, this time with a special focus on oilfield applications, comes to Aberdeen in April 2010 and promises to be an un-missable event.
Political pressures and environmental concerns have made new oil deposits more difficult and expensive to find in recent years. With the prospect of a decreasing supply of oil now widely publicised, the industry is left with two choices:
1. Seek innovative ways to prolong the productivity of mature fields and focus efforts on the extraction of oil from existing reserves
2. Explore new sources which were previously not economically viable
The situation has called for high performance materials with more and more extreme service temperature ranges, increased resistance to harsh oils and chemicals and the ability to withstand higher pressures in down-hole environments.
High performance elastomers and thermoplastics have been constantly evolving to meet these needs and are now found in just about everything from subsea trees, well heads and umbilicals to piping and chemical processing plants. Tomorrow’s materials will need to withstand temperatures and pressures far higher than previously encountered in oil reserves and for this reason there must be continued research, development and qualification to reduce the need for costly intervention and respond to new challenges.
Featuring presentations from key players in the global polymer market, the High Performance Elastomers & Polymers for Oil & Gas conference will bring attendees face to face with their partners from the oil and gas supply chain to learn about new materials capable of withstanding extreme service temperature ranges, harsh oils and chemicals and high pressure of down-hole environments. Companies on the speaking panel include: Schlumberger, Precision Polymer Engineering Ltd, Zeon Chemicals, James Walker & Co Ltd, Lanxess, Armacell, DuPont Performance Elastomers and MERL.
There's no replacement for face to face meetings for getting like-minded people together to share information, build rapport and long term business relationships. High Performance Elastomers & Polymers for Oil and Gas 2010 is being developed for operators, contractors, equipment and component suppliers, material suppliers and research organisations involved with polymers and their use in oil and gas applications to share their experiences in this area. All registrations received by 12 February will save £275 off the full conference price.
