Former energy secretary Vince Perez’s Alternergy Holdings Corporation signed a critical interconnection agreement (ICA) with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) for its 100-megawatt Tanay wind power project in Rizal.
This marks Alternergy’s second successful ICA with NGCP in recent weeks, following a similar agreement for its 64MW Alabat Wind Power Project in Quezon earlier in April.
“NGCP’s approval is a positive response to fostering connectivity for renewable energy projects and increased critical energy infrastructures,” said Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp. (ATWC).
The project is now poised to move into the development phase. This follows the award of the certificate of confirmation of commerciality by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the completion of key commercial contracts, including the wind turbine supply agreement and the balance of plant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.
Alternergy remains committed to delivering the Tanay Wind Project by the end of 2025, as mandated by the Green Energy Auction Program 2.
“Similar to the ICA for the Alabat Wind Power Project, NGCP stands to provide assistance to Alternergy’s Tanay Wind Power Project which will contribute substantial renewable capacity to the grid to bolster the country’s energy sufficiency and sustainability,” said Anthony Almeda, NGCP president and CEO.
Almeda emphasized that NGCP, as the country’s transmission network provider and system operator, is responsible for expanding grid capacity and reliability to accommodate the integration of new generation projects like Alternergy’s wind farms.
