EGAT and the Swedish Trade and Invest Council signed a memorandum of understanding to exchange knowledge and technologies on biomass energy and hydrogen energy storage system, with the aim to increase the share of electricity from clean energy and achieve Net Zero Emissions.

On April 30, 2024, H.E. Mrs. Anna Hammargren, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mr. Wattanapong Kurovat, Director-General of Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to exchange experiences, knowledge, and technologies in clean energy between the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Swedish Trade and Invest Council at Samyan Mitrtown Hall, Bangkok.

Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel, said that the Kingdom of Sweden is considered a global leader in clean energy utilization, including biomass, hydropower, solar energy, wind, and hydrogen. This 2-year-term cooperation between EGAT and the Swedish Trade and Invest Council aims at supporting Thailand’s clean energy transition under the framework of exchanging experiences, knowledge, and technologies in clean energy. This includes biomass fuel from the sustainable management of the forest area to the technology for verifying and tracking the sources of biomass fuel throughout the process. Besides, the parties will explore hydrogen energy storage system and support training and academic skill development to seek business opportunities and the flexibility management of renewable energy resources, coupled with increasing the share of electricity from clean energy to reduce carbon emissions from the electricity generation, concretely. The goals are to achieve Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions for the country.

Mr. Kacper Pierzynowski, Trade Commissioner of the Swedish Trade and Invest Council, added that severe climate change has resulted in the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions. This cooperation to survey biomass energy by using the efficient forestry management and harnessing the potential of hydrogen to generate electricity will help create energy innovations and business opportunities for both countries, leading to the concrete transformation of the energy landscape.
