In early April 2024, KONCAR - Engineering (KET) contracted a new engineering project for the reconstruction of the 130 kV transformer station PT60 Flarken, according to the turnkey principle, which is located in the very north of Sweden. The contract worth EUR 12 million was signed with the Swedish distribution system operator Vattenfall Eldistribution.
It should be noted that KONCAR – Engineering has had a very positive experience with Vattenfall in the realization of the reconstruction project of the 130 kV facility at the RT25 Finnslatten substation, the completion of which is expected in early 2025. The reconstruction of RT25 Finnslatten is the first engineering project contracted by KONCAR – Engineering in 2021 in Sweden.
The new project consists of the reconstruction and extension of the 130 kV plant, with six new line and transformer bays, which includes the supply, installation, functional testing and commissioning of the complete high-voltage primary equipment and associated secondary systems of protection and control of the power facility, extension of the existing auxiliary power supply systems, as well as all the necessary construction works as part of the project.
KONCAR – Engineering will also perform the design preparation, project and construction site management, electrical installation works at the entire plant, factory and functional tests, as well as commissioning with HSE project management. As part of the project, high-voltage instrument transformers manufactured by KONCAR – Instrument Transformers will also be delivered. When it comes to other KONCAR Group companies included in the project, INK Projekt, a company owned by KONCAR – Engineering with yearslong experience in high-voltage substation projects, will be in charge of preparing the civil engineering documentation. Considering the location of the plant in the far, cold and snow-covered north of Sweden, the outdoor work periods are also limited, so the project is expected to be completed at the end of 2026.
In the past year, KONCAR – Engineering worked intensively on systematically boosting the implementation of contracts on the Swedish market. One of the main initiatives is the opening of an office in Västerås, Sweden, where KET employees now have the opportunity to hold meetings, as well as factory tests of secondary system equipment and work. Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of projects on the Swedish market by establishing a separate organizational unit named Scandinavian Contract Implementation within KET, which is in charge of managing projects on the Swedish market. Additional systematic efforts were also undertaken by the Export Sales BU in terms of expanding the network of partners and subcontractors for future potential projects on the Swedish market, whereby they also completed the pre-qualification for client companies Ellevio and Vattenfall Eldistribution, which will in turn facilitate bidding and contracting of new projects.
KONCAR – Engineering has entered the Swedish market within the last few years by contracting and successfully implementing projects for the companies Vattenfall Eldistribution (the largest distribution system operator) and Svenksa Kraftnat (transmission system operator). It is important to emphasize that in all cases, KONCAR – Engineering is the direct contracting party and the main contractor for all projects in Sweden, which entails full responsibility for the preparation of the design solution and the contract realization. The many years of experience and competence of the employees are precisely what have made it possible to take on such responsibilities and successfully implement the aforementioned contracts on the extremely demanding and complex Swedish market.
Now, after three years of successful business on the Swedish market, the new contract for the reconstruction of the PT60 Flarken marks the fifth one signed in northern Europe and attests to the quality of project implementation and realization, as well as customer satisfaction. We expect further strengthening and growth of complex turnkey engineering projects in the area of Transmission and Distribution on the Swedish market.
