San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) and San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI) earned certification for their work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Two of the ports operated by SAAM Terminals in Chile were distinguished by Giro Limpio for their work and commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Both STI and SVTI have developed special plans to manage idling trucks.

Idling is when the engine runs but the vehicle is not in motion for prolonged periods.

“An essential part of our efforts is to make our processes as efficient as possible while protecting our environment, and this initiative helps us do just that. We have a responsibility to increasingly sustainable operations and all our teams are committed,” said SAAM Terminals’s VP of Sustainability and Communications, Cristina Schmidt.

In addition to the Giro Limpio seal for the third consecutive year, SVTI received special recognition for its “outstanding” reporting quality, while STI (which has been in the program for two years now) also received a diploma for its active participation in a study entitled “Diagnosis and Characterization of Female Participation in the Efficient Freight Transportation and Electromobility Labor Market.

Giro Limpio is a free, voluntary Chilean program managed by the Energy Sustainability Agency and funded by the Energy Ministry. Its purpose is to certify and recognize efforts made by cargo transport companies in the areas of sustainability and energy efficiency.
