- Undersea cable supply contract with Belgian electric power company (ELIA)
- 'Energy hub' connecting power grids with Belgium, the UK, and Denmark
- Cooperation with LS Marine Solutions/LS Eco Energy, Expanding its global submarine business,
LS Cable will supply submarine cables to the world's first artificial energy island.
LS Cable & System announced on the 20th that it signed a contract to supply submarine cables worth approximately 280 billion won with ELIA, a Belgian power company.
The submarine cable will be supplied to Princess Elizabeth Island, which ELIA is constructing in the North Sea, about 45km off the Belgian coast. This artificial island is a floating structure that is connected to a 3.5GW offshore wind power complex to store, distribute, and manage power.
When completed in 2030, it will serve as a hub to regulate energy supply between the mainland, the UK, and Denmark. Power conversion stations, energy storage systems, and power grid connection facilities will be built on the island, and submarine cables will be used to transmit power between the artificial island and the mainland.
The company said, “We will be the first among cable companies to gain experience building submarine cables for artificial energy islands,” and “We will be competitive in winning orders for large-scale artificial island projects that Denmark and other countries will pursue in the future.”
LS Cable & System has recently been accelerating its global submarine cable business, including the construction of a U.S. plant, facility investment by LS Marine Solutions, and promotion of LS Eco Energy's European and Asian businesses.
