Piero Ercoli, Executive Director of the Decarbonisation Unit at Snam, has been appointed as a new member of the Board of Directors of Hydrogen Europe. This European association represents the interests of the hydrogen industry and its stakeholders, promoting hydrogen as a key element for a zero-emission society.
The new Council members, as industry leaders, will help drive the association's ambitions, working to advance global carbon neutrality.
Hydrogen Europe has a mission to facilitate the adoption of clean hydrogen as an abundant and affordable energy carrier and raw material, powering the European economy with net zero emissions. The association brings together large, medium and small companies, national hydrogen bodies, non-governmental organisations, regional public authorities and other relevant organisations. It promotes policies and initiatives at national, European and international levels that strengthen the penetration of European hydrogen technologies in the global market by coordinating research, development and innovation of reliable clean hydrogen technologies. The aim is to be the trusted and united voice of the European hydrogen sector, through the joint efforts of its members, and drive the future of the sector by creating sustainable jobs and growth.

Piero Ercoli has been Executive Director of the Decarbonisation Unit at Snam since July 2022, with responsibility for hydrogen and CCS (carbon capture and storage). He joined Snam in July 2021 after a 16-year career at Eni, where he held roles of increasing importance, including Head of the LNG (liquefied natural gas) portfolio and Head of biofuels, energy sector and emissions trading. Ercoli holds a degree in Economics, Management and Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano.
