Chile’s largest port terminal, San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), obtained a new certification from the Environment Ministry’s Huella Chile program. In addition to the seals already received for Measurement and Reduction, ‘Excellence’ recognition has been added this time, marking a milestone for the national port industry.

The Seal of Excellence is awarded to organizations that, during the same year, obtain the Quantification and Reduction seals and meet at least four of the seven complementary attributes defined by the Huella Chile program for carbon management at the organizational level.

STI met five: Commitment, or formal agreements acquired by the organization; Cooperation, consisting of coordination with two or more external institutions; Awareness, by carrying out dissemination activities; Environmental or other co-benefits, through evidence of actions to reduce emissions, consumption and waste; and Continuous improvement, based on a greenhouse gas management system.

STI’s general manager, Andrés Albertini, recognized the entire team’s effort to achieve this milestone. “STI is known as a pioneering port. Our goal is to always exceed our customers’ expectations through comprehensive operations, which requires everyone’s commitment to something as important as protecting our environment. This recognition substantiates the efforts we have made and will continue to make to offer first-class, sustainable and efficient operations.”

The port terminal’s Head of Environment, Karen Ortega, commented, “At STI we have a robust plan for managing environmental stewardship. Efficient operations must go hand in hand with initiatives that protect the environment. At STI we take care of every detail and environmental issues have become a cornerstone of our work.”
