In Astana, Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas JSC ( KMG) Askhat Khasenov met with John Whelan , Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Upstream Company, and Cecil Rolin , Managing Director of ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc.
The parties discussed the development of Tengiz and Kashagan deposits. "Tengizchevroil" Company (TCO) has started to use the facilities of the Tengiz oil field this year under the Bolashak Expansion Project/ Estuary Pressure Management Project (SMP/SMP).

Touching on the issues of the development of the Kashagan field, Khasenov noted the strategic importance of meeting the previously established deadlines for projects within the framework of the further development of the field (building two gas plants and increasing the volume of production) for KazMunayGas. For the successful implementation of projects, all partners, including ExxonMobil, must make quick decisions and act together.
"These projects open the way to new perspectives of our mutual cooperation and contribute to the development of Kazakhstan's oil and gas industry. Therefore, the undertaken projects should be implemented on time," said the head of KMG.
At the same time, the issues of local coverage aimed at localization of production of goods for the needs of Tengiz and Kashagan projects were discussed at the meeting.
In 2023, TCO's total payments under contracts with domestic suppliers amounted to $3.9 billion (71% of the total). In the first six months of 2024, the level of Kazakhstan coverage reached 70%.
The total payments of NCOC (Operator of Kashagan) for local coverage exceeded 17 billion dollars in the period 2004-2023. In the first half of 2024, the share of Kazakhstan suppliers is more than 62%.
According to the results of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in continuing the successful partnership established between KMG and ExxonMobil.
