Bute Energy is proud to announce the launch of its Net Zero Skills Strategy, a comprehensive plan designed to address the growing demand for green jobs in Wales. As a leading onshore wind developer, Bute Energy aims to help meet Wales’ ambitious net zero targets by 2050 by developing a skilled workforce ready to drive the renewable energy industry forward.

Wales TUC suggest 60,000 green jobs could be created in Wales if we invest properly in the green economy. Bute Energy is set to create up to 2,000 of these directly and indirectly from its onshore wind projects. However, with a national skills shortage, the company is taking action to close the gap. The Net Zero Skills Strategy focuses on building a diverse, inclusive pipeline of talent through education, upskilling, and partnerships across sectors.

Since the start of 2023, Bute Energy has engaged over 7,000 school pupils across Wales to inspire the next generation to pursue STEM careers and explore opportunities in renewable energy. The company has welcomed students for work experience, supported youth awards, and partnered with schools and colleges to raise awareness of green careers.

Bute Energy is also committed to upskilling workers through paid internships, collaborations with universities like Cardiff University, and events at colleges such as Coleg Gwent and Merthyr College. The strategy ensures that renewable energy is seen as a viable career path, not just for school leavers but also for individuals looking to retrain later in life.

“Wales is facing a monumental challenge in creating a workforce that can meet the demand for green jobs. Our Net Zero Skills Strategy is designed to address these gaps head-on, from the classroom to the boardroom, with the aim of building a diverse, inclusive workforce ready to deliver the infrastructure needed for a sustainable future.” – Biba Chuta, Social Mobility Partner

Partnerships are a core element of Bute Energy’s approach. The company is partnering with major organisations like Green Careers Week 2024 to further promote careers in the green economy. Collaborations with the FAW, Bee1, Wales Netball and Literature Wales are helping to raise awareness of the connection between other areas of our lives to sustainability and create new pathways into renewable energy, particularly for women and girls in local communities.

Bute Energy is committed to helping Wales meet its net zero goals by creating green jobs, investing in local communities, and collaborating with partners to deliver a sustainable future.
