An automated system for monitoring emissions to the environment was launched in four units of the Atyrau Oil Refinery (petroleum coke heating, heat and electricity production, catalytic reforming unit, aromatic hydrocarbons unit).
Environmental monitoring tools allow real-time monitoring of sulfur dioxide, soot, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide emissions in flue gases from furnaces and boilers. The data is sent to the monitoring bodies every 20 minutes through the information system "National data bank on the state of the environment and natural resources".
Installation of an automated monitoring system allows not only to monitor emission indicators, but also to adjust the operation of facilities in order to improve technological indicators, if necessary.
It should be noted that the plant has 21 technological units, only four of which are considered to be the main source of air emissions and are subject to the "Principles of conducting an automated system of environmental emissions monitoring during industrial environmental control" (Order of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 22.06.2021 Order No. 208). In accordance with the mentioned principles, the automated monitoring system should be installed in places that release 500 or more tons of emissions into the atmosphere per year.
Atyrau Oil Refinery continues its work on reducing emissions to the environment. For this purpose, the enterprise has developed an action plan with target indicators for saving energy and resources, as well as reducing atmospheric emissions until 2031.
