"KazMunayGas" NC JSC (KMG) and "Tatneft" JSC started drilling the first exploratory well with a depth of 5500 meters in the Karaton Podsolevoy section in the Atyrau region. Chairman of the Board of KMG Askhat Khasenov and General Director of JSC "Tatneft" Nail Maganov, as well as First Deputy Chairman of the Board of KMG Kurmangazy Eskaziyev took part in the ceremony of starting drilling operations.
"The start of drilling the first exploration well at the Karaton Podsolevoy site is an important step towards strengthening the resource base of Kazakhstan. This project is in line with our strategic objectives aimed at increasing the amount of reserves and developing complex subsoil areas. We are confident that our joint efforts with Tatneft will be effective and contribute to increasing the country's potential in the oil and gas sector," A. Khasenov noted.
"We have established mutual relations with Kazakh colleagues in various directions. Today's event is a bright manifestation of the successful continuation of our partnership. The potential of the Karaton Podsolevoy site is huge, and thanks to the support of the Government of Kazakhstan, it can become the basis of new successful joint projects," noted Nail Maganov, CEO of Tatneft JSC.
The project "Karaton Podsolevoy" is being implemented within the framework of the Improved model contract, which has significantly increased the investment attractiveness of complex deposits in the country. This mechanism offers significant regulatory and fiscal preferences, creating conditions for the exploration and development of complex subsoil areas.
Searching for hydrocarbons deep in the subsurface is accompanied by great technical challenges, including the given depth, potentially high formation pressure, the presence of hydrogen sulfide, and thick salt deposits.
The Karaton Podsolevoy site is located close to the large Tengiz deposit and deposits of the "Embimunaygaz" company.
