Carmeuse and Intramotev have successfully launched the world’s first independently driven battery-electric railcar in revenue service. By electrifying the Bush Bay rail line at the Cedarville Operations Site, Carmeuse has eliminated the need for a second diesel locomotive to transport materials. This initiative aligns with Carmeuse’s sustainability goals, reducing diesel consumption by 55,000 gallons and CO2 emissions by 617 tons over the next decade.
Earlier this year, Carmeuse proudly announced a partnership with Intramotev, a technology company specializing in autonomous zero-emissions rail solutions. This collaboration was aimed at decreasing the carbon footprint, enhancing efficiency, and prioritizing worker safety, included deploying three Intramotev TugVolt battery-electric railcars at the Cedarville Operation in Michigan.
With the deployment now well underway, we are excited to share a first look at the self-propelled railcars in action at our Cedarville location. Watch the video below to see this innovative solution in action.
