Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Cebu-Bohol Interconnection Submarine Power Cable Project for its client National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. This project involves laying a 230 kV alternating current (AC) submarine cable (1,200 MW, two circuits) along a 27km route between Cebu and Bohol islands, aiming to resolve the growing power supply-demand imbalance on Bohol Island, which has been exacerbated by the recent surge in tourism, and to enhance the overall reliability of the region’s power grid.

Sumitomo Electric was responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of the system, including the 230 kV AC cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cable, and successfully completed the work on schedule, despite the highly challenging nature of the deep-sea installation. Through the successful completion of this project, a stable and efficient energy supply has been made available to local residents and businesses, significantly advancing the region's development.

Kazuhira Harada, Executive Officer of Sumitomo Electric, commented, “We are extremely pleased to have successfully completed this project by leveraging the extensive experience and expertise we have developed over the years in the Philippine waters. The completion of this project marks a significant achievement in strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure, and Sumitomo Electric remains committed to contributing to the sustainable energy supply in the country.”

Sumitomo Electric, with over 30 years of experience completing submarine power projects in the Philippines and consistently delivering high-quality services highly regarded by our customers, remains dedicated to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to the country where electricity demand is expected to continuously rise in the future.
