SPIE Building Solutions, a Polish subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has completed the installation of a fire protection system for Mercury Engineering in Warsaw, Poland.
The project, which included the design, delivery, installation and commissioning of a fire detection and alarm system, along with an acoustic warning system at a data centre in Warsaw, began in 2022 and lasted for two years. The commissioned system will provide full protection for the facility, which is used by some of the largest technology companies in the world.
“The recently completed data centre is one of the largest in Poland. The project was challenging in light of the above-standard expectations of the client in terms of security and reliability of the technical infrastructure, as well as the large size of the building – over 10,000 square metres. The total installed capacity of the facility is as high as 24.55 MVA, which clearly indicates the scale of the project. In order to make the necessary fibre-optic network connections between the FAS and VAS cabinets[1], we had to initiate the process of extending the national technical evaluation of the fibre-optic cable available from one of the largest cabling manufacturers in Poland. It was a real pleasure to work on such a complex, yet well-organized project,” said Pawel Jadczak, project manager at SPIE Building Solutions in Poland.
One of the key features of the project was the complete coverage of the data hall and all technical rooms with a Class 2 early detection system, which has a direct impact on the response time of the fire detection system and the safety of the protected infrastructure. Mercury Engineering, the general contractor for the facility, is an international leader in engineering and construction solutions, specialised in the execution of complex projects.
