A planned 300km pipeline to transport up to one million tonnes of green hydrogen produced in the North Sea to Germany will save the country up to $30.9 billion, according to the energy minister in the German state of Lower Saxony.
Christian Meyer told a German newspaper that the project — part of the wider AquaVentus initiative to install 10GW of offshore wind-powered electrolysers in the German North Sea — would save the country billions.
The savings are largely due to the extra costs of expanding the onshore electricity grid if the equivalent amount of offshore wind power were transported to shore via cable and then used to power electrolysers on land.
United H2 Limited welcomes this landmark project, recognising its potential to drive innovation in hydrogen production and export markets, accelerating the global transition to clean energy.
