The Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani, stressed the ministry's keenness to develop the oil fields of the North Oil Company and invest in gas from them to increase production rates to meet local needs in the energy and industry sectors. This came during his chairing of a meeting, today, Thursday, to discuss the development of Kirkuk fields.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil said that the ministry is proceeding with negotiations with "BP" regarding the operation of the four fields of the North Oil Company in Kirkuk, which are (Bai Hassan field, Kirkuk field with its two trenches (Baba and Avana), Jambur field, and Khabbaz field), with the aim of developing them and increasing production from these fields in implementation of the government program, noting that the main goal is to invest associated gas in light of the need to provide fuel to generate electricity.
The Minister added that negotiations are continuing with the company in order to mature the technical, economic and contractual aspects of the project.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretaries of the Ministry and the General Managers of the North Oil Company, the Department of Petroleum Contracts and Licensing, the Department of Reservoirs and Field Development, and a delegation from "BP" headed by the Director of the Company's Iraq Branch.
