Chiyoda Corporation (Chiyoda) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract from SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (Customer) for a carbon dioxide (CO2) to carbon monoxide (CO) chemical transformation plant (pre-treatment for supplying bioreactors).

The plant will be used for research and development of the ‘Promotion of Carbon Recycling Using CO2 from Bio-manufacturing Technology as a Direct Raw Material | NEDO Green Innovation Fund Projects’ by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The efficient technology transforming CO2 to CO process, termed ‘Chemical Looping Technology’ by the customer, has been developed with a CO2 conversion rate of 90% or greater. Chiyoda has been awarded this contract following their earlier completion of the plant’s Front End Engineering Design (FEED), including utility and other equipment.

CO is a key raw material for carbon neutrality. With future demand expected to increase, Chiyoda recognizes the significance of Chemical Looping Technology in producing CO and will actively cooperate in its social implementation following this EPC contract.
As a fully integrated engineering company, Chiyoda is actively involved in the social implementation of technologies to realize carbon neutrality, including CCUS*, and will continue contributing to the development of a sustainable society in line with our purpose of ‘Enriching Society through Engineering Value’.
