The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced that it launched the 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program. The Foundation invites community partners to apply for grants that promote clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability and water-based recreation projects.

“North Branch Land Trust is extremely grateful to have received a 2024 American Water Charitable Foundation Water and Environment Grant. The grant was used to achieve a critical goal of the Land Trust to encourage equitable access to land and water resources and implement good stewardship practices at our Hanover Crossings Marsh Preserve. Grant funds were used to promote and enhance clean water and improve wildlife habitat and outdoor nature-based recreation access,” said Ellen M. Ferretti, Executive Director, North Branch Land Trust.

In 2024, the American Water Charitable Foundation awarded a combined total of $1 million to 59 organizations in 11 states, supporting organizations located in communities served by American Water, including North Branch Land Trust, supporting its implementation at Hanover Crossings Marsh Preserve in Pennsylvania.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is thrilled to launch the 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program, which supports impactful initiatives and programs throughout the U.S.,” said Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation. “Our mission to Keep Communities Flowing empowers communities to understand the importance of water education and conservation, while also encouraging local organizations to engage in protecting this vital resource.”

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has invested over $20 million in funding through grants and matching gifts that positively benefit the communities where American Water and its employees live and work.

Applications will be accepted from organizations served by American Water and located in the following states, in addition to its Military Services locations: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

In 2024, American Water’s former Environmental Grant Program merged with the Foundation’s Water and Environment Grant Program. This strategic integration continues to strengthen the Foundation’s charitable focus and impact across American Water’s footprint.
