Nido Petroleum Philippines Limited as Operator on behalf of its joint venture partner Philippine National Oil Corporation – Exploration Company (PNOC-EC), is pleased to advise of the commencement of the multi-beam and sea-bed coring survey in Service Contract 58 (SC 58).

The survey, which is being acquired by contractor Fugro Survey Pte Ltd (Fugro) using the MV Laut Timur, will be acquired in two consecutive phases:

- Phase 1: Acquire 1,500 sq km of multi-beam bathymetry data, which will be used to provide a high resolution image of selected areas of the sea-floor and assist in optimising the location of the deep sea cores over areas of potential hydrocarbon seepage. This phase of the survey is expected to take approximately 10 days, subject to weather conditions.

- Phase 2: Acquisition of approximately 150 cores over pre-selected sites favourable for hydrocarbon seepage. The core sites will be located above potential source graben delineated by Nido’s Talusi 2D and 3D seismic surveys acquired in 2007 and 2008. Detection of hydrocarbons in the cores will be used to further mitigate charge risk in the deepwater petroleum system and aid in selecting the best drilling candidate from the SC 58 Prospect and Lead portfolio. This phase of the survey is expected to take approximately three weeks, subject to weather conditions.

On completion of the survey, the cores will be sent for detailed geochemical analysis at Fugro’s laboratory with deliverables scheduled for availability by the end of July 2010.

Jon Pattillo, Nido’s Head of Exploration, commented “Sea-bed coring is a recognised exploration technique used by oil and gas companies around the world to help mitigate hydrocarbon charge risk in deepwater basins where well control is limited or absent and is therefore especially applicable to Nido’s deepwater SC 58 block”.
