EDC Rig Sneferu completes 40 day dry tow from the Gulf of Suez to the Mediterranean Sea

After a 40 day dry tow that took them around the whole African continent, EDC Rig Sneferu was successfully floated off the Dockwise Heavy lifter “Teal”, offshore Port Said, at 9:25 a.m Friday 21 January 2005.

While on the tow an upgrade project was carried out with the overhaul of the two existing mud pumps and the addition of a third Oilwell A-1700 PT mud pump to the rigs existing system. Additionally the rigs SCR system was also upgraded to incorporate the new pump with the addition of a fifth SCR bay. A riding crew consisting of the Rig’s Senior Electrician, Rig Engineer, a welding team from Lamprell and two NOI engineers were on the rig for the duration of the tow and carried out the upgrade project.

The Sneferu will now commence a three year contract for Belayim Petroleum Company (PETROBEL) in their offshore Mediterranean concessions.
