U.S. government scientists on Monday refined estimates of how much oil flowed into the Gulf of Mexico from BP Plc's blown-out Macondo well.
The Flow Rate Technical Group and a team of scientists with the U.S. Department of Energy say 4.9 million barrels of oil have been released from the well at a rate of 62,000 barrels a day at the beginning of the spill in late April.
That rate dropped to 53,000 barrels a day immediately before it was sealed on July 15, the group said.
