AMEC,the international engineering and project management company, has been appointedby Maersk FPSOs to carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED) for modifications to the Curlew floatingproduction storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in the central North Sea.
The value of thecontract has not been announced.
AMEC’s FEED scope of work is partof a project to extend the life of the Shell-operated Curlew field and it will focuson the Curlew D gas condensate field located approximately 210 kilometres eastof Aberdeen. To maximise recoverable reserves from the Curlew Dreservoir, the study is intended to evaluate the feasibility of a reduction inthe pressure of the condensate arriving at the Curlew FPSO.

AMEC was responsible for the original engineering, procurementinstallation and commissioning of the topside facilities and utilities for theconversion of Maersk’s Dorset tanker into the Curlew FPSO in themid-1990s. This was an industry first, with hydrocarbon production starting19 months after contract award.
