Petrobras has jumped from sixth to fourth place in the ranking of the 250 biggest global energy companies, published by the Platts agency, a world leader in energy and commodities information.

According to Platts, the Company’s owes its excellent performance to the pre-salt reserves, hailed as “one of the major oil finds of the last few decades”, and to its prospects for a much stronger presence in Brazil’s exploration and production activities.

Petrobras’ rise in the ranking is on a par with the performance shown by other BRIC companies. Of the top twenty companies listed, 11 are Russian, Chinese or Indian. This compares with only six last year.

This newly-achieved position means that Petrobras is now one of the five biggest integrated energy companies in the world, and has also achieved one of the long-term goals set in the Company’s Strategic Plan.
