Pakistan will seek assistance from China to carry out Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project to import gas from Iran.

“The government will seek assistance from China for 32 projects in different sectors and Pak-China Energy Group will meet next month to discuss these projects,” deputy Pakistan’s petroleum minister, Imtiaz Qazi said.

He went on to say that, government would seek financing from international as well as local market to carry out the IP gas pipeline project after completion of feasibility report, Daily Times reported.

According to estimates, domestic demand of gas would stand at 8 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day against local gas supply of 2 billion cubic feet by 2020. At present gas demand is 6 billion cubic feet of gas per day against supply of 4 billion cubic feet.

It's worth mentioning that, the last contract addendum of gas export to Pakistan was signed formally with the presence of the Iranian oil minister, Dr. Seyed Masoud Mir Kazemi, The Managing Director of Pakistan state Gas Company, Miyam Naem Sherafat, and Oil Deputy Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Reza Kasayi Zade last May.

By endorsement of this contract between two countries (Iran and Pakistan) Iran is responsible for natural gas export to Pakistan from 2014 in amount of 21/5 million cubic meters daily, and 7/8 billion cubic meters annually.
