Qatargas will increase the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) and Tohoku Electric Power Co , the Nikkei business daily reported.

Qatargas Chief Executive Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani said it will give top priority to the two Japanese power companies, as directed by the Qatar government, the Nikkei said.

Demand for LNG has been rising since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami as Tohoku and Tepco scrambled restore generating capacity, the paper reported.

Al Thani said Qatargas was ready to step up supplies to other Japanese customers but did not specify any prices or capacity, the business daily said.
