Tenaris’s SPIJ mill in Indonesia has recently shipped its first Dopeless technology order for an offshore project in Equatorial Guinea. For this project, the operator chose 7 5/8” 13Cr TenarisHydril Blue Dopeless premium connections. Dopeless technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections in the mill, turning thread compounds obsolete. By doing so, Dopeless coating makes operations more efficient, lessening the environmental footprint and minimizing risk and costs for E&P operators.
For offshore operations, Dopeless technology can produce significant savings. in the order of 10% of the total pipe cost, by increasing rig efficiency. It also reduces the risk of accidents on the platform by eliminating the need to apply thread compounds manually therefore avoiding slippery drill floors.
The Dopeless coating line in Indonesia became operational earlier this year, including facilities for full-length pipe and accessories. In order to meet the increased demand for Dopeless technology Tenaris is carrying out a significant investment plan worldwide, starting up new dedicated Dopeless coating lines at its mill in Veracruz, Mexico; Dalmine, Italy, and Aberdeen, UK.
