Aminex Acquiring Seismic Survey in Nyuni Area Licence

Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 5/30/2012, Location: Africa

Aminex PLC, an independent oil company listed on the main market of the London and Irish Stock Exchanges with exploration and development assets in the emerging hydrocarbon province of East Africa, announces commencement of a 335 kilometre 2D seismic survey in the Nyuni Area Licence, offshore Tanzania. The survey will target the transition zone (shelf area) of the licence between the coast and the deep-water section of the block. A combination of ocean bottom cable (OBC) and a marine seismic source will be used in the shallow water and a land-based seismic source on the emergent reefs and islands.

This is the first time that the OBC technique has been used for a licence-wide survey in the transition zone environment in this part of East Africa, where conventional shallow water seismic has proven to be less effective due to the number of reefs and islands restricting access to seismic vessels towing streamers. It is anticipated that the survey will be completed in the next six weeks, following which the seismic data will be processed and interpreted.

Aminex is also planning a programme of over 500 kilometres of 2D marine seismic in the deep-water portion of the Nyuni Area Licence in the second half of 2012. The combined transition zone and deep-water seismic programmes will fulfil the seismic work required under the initial work period of the Nyuni Area PSA which extends through October 2013.

Aminex Chief Executive Stuard Detmer commented: “The transition zone seismic survey will provide significantly improved definition of existing structural leads and unprecedented imaging of the stratigraphic potential that has proven so successful in the deep water. The combined results of the two Nyuni Area seismic surveys will be used to target future drilling in the transition zone and deep-water sections of the block.”

Partners in the Nyuni Area PSA are: Ndovu Resources Limited (Aminex) 70% (Operator); RAK Gas Commission 25%; Bounty Oil and Gas NL 5%.
