New Technologies of Well Construction Being Implemented

TATNEFT is implementing proven new efficient technologies of wells construction, among which is application of annulus swelling packers.

Water/oil annulus swelling packers are applied for zonal isolation and improving the well casing quality. 40 production strings equipped with swelling packers of TAM Company were run in the wells of TATNEFT in 2011.

TAM elastomer annulus packers swelling upon contact with fluids are applied in the wells of all categories in terms of zonal isolation. Water swelling packers are set as part of the production string or the non-cemented liner and serve for beds' isolation and preventing water breakthrough in the process of wells completion and operation.

Swelling of the packers' elastomer and blocking of the formation fluids migration channels occur under the influence of the formation fluids (water or crude oil).The packer rubber elements are capable of swelling at temperatures up to 302 C and withstanding a differential pressure of up to 62 MPa.

The packers do not contain any movable parts and no special equipment is required for their setting.
