Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jose Antonio Lopez-Monis as the Group’s new Managing Director. Mr Lopez-Monis will replace Mr Laurie Voyer who has advised the HLG Board of his decision to return to Australia at the completion of his contract in December 2012.

Mr Lopez-Monis has extensive experience in international construction, having worked for Dragados, S.A. of Spain – one of the world’s largest construction companies - since 1989. Immediately prior to his appointment as Managing Director of HLG, he was Dragados’ Director of Global Business Development responsible for the company’s international growth, reporting to the CEO.

Prior to this he was Director of Dragados’ international division and was responsible for the management and operation of Dragados, S.A., and its construction affiliates, in international markets. He has also held senior management roles with the company in USA, South Africa, the Middle East, Colombia, Ecuador and Ireland.

Mr Lopez-Monis, 50, will commence his new role on 1 October 2012. Mr Voyer will remain with the Group until the end of the year to allow a smooth transition of the business.

HLG’s Chairman, Mr Riad T Sadik, said he was delighted to have identified such a well-credentialed candidate to replace Mr Voyer.

“We conducted an extensive global search for suitable candidates for what is one of the premier roles in the Middle East and North African construction industry,” Mr Sadik said.

“We are very fortunate to have found someone of Jose’s calibre to step in and lead us in our next phase of development.

“His strong contracting background and experience in multiple international markets will be an asset to HLG and I am delighted to have him on board.

“Jose will continue HLG’s growth strategy of diversifying geographically and by work type, and I look forward to working closely with him to achieve our goal of becoming the leading diversified international contractor in the region,” Mr Sadik said.

HLG Director and CEO of Leighton Holdings, Mr Hamish Tyrwhitt, said the HLG Board was pleased to have secured Mr Lopez-Monis as Mr Voyer’s replacement.

“Jose’s background and experience make him an ideal candidate for this important role. HLG’s key strategic objective is to ensure the company is IPO-ready by 2016, and Jose has been selected based on his ability to deliver on this strategy,” Mr Tyrwhitt said.

“His knowledge of international contracting in emerging and challenging markets is well suited to the Middle East, and his experience in large-scale infrastructure fits with HLG’s focus on major infrastructure opportunities,” he said.

Mr Sadik and Mr Tyrwhitt thanked Mr Voyer for his contribution to both HLG and the Leighton Group.

“In his three years as CEO and Managing Director, Laurie has established HLG as one of the region’s leading construction groups,” Mr Sadik said.

“He took over in 2009 during a very challenging period for the Group, and successfully navigated HLG through the difficulties created by the Global Financial Crisis.

Mr Tyrwhitt acknowledged Mr Voyer’s significant contribution to the Leighton Group over many years.

“Laurie has made an enormous contribution to the Leighton Group’s success over more than 40 years. He commenced his career with Leighton Contractors in Perth in 1972 and rose to become one of the Group’s most respected senior executives.

“We wish him well, and thank him for his contribution to the Leighton Group,” he said.
