PDO Signs $290m Pacts with Local Contractors

The majority state-owned Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed a series of oil well servicing contracts with three of its super local community contractors (SLCCs) as part of its drive to boost Omani business and create more employment in the Sultanate.

The agreements, signed as part of PDO's in-country value drive, were a well intervention services contract, covering southern part of PDO concession to Al Sahari Oil Services for ten years, valued at $110 million and a hoist service contract covering northern part of PDO concession to Al Shawamikh Oil Services Company for ten years, valued at $90 million. Yet another contract was for hoist services, covering the southern part of PDO concession with Al Baraka Oilfield Services for ten years, valued at $90 million.

In addition, two five-year pipeline maintenance contracts, which have already been announced, were signed -” one with Al Shawamikh covering the central part of PDO concession for $22 million and the other one with Al Baraka in South Oman for $33 million. "Both companies will be supported by sub-contractors with a wide experience in the maintenance of inter-field and cross-country pipelines, said a statement from the company.

PDO also purchased the initial equipment worth $50 million to run these contracts for use by the SLLCs over the next ten years. The company will also help with ongoing support and training.

Three more contracts
"These contracts have been awarded as part of PDO's in-country value (ICV) strategy to develop Omani capabilities, invest in Omani goods and services and support the creation of thousands of Omani jobs, said PDO managing director Raoul Restucci.

"This significant investment underlines our strong belief that local businesses can deliver critical work safely, diligently, efficiently and to the high technical standard., Raoul Restucci said.

By the end of the year, PDO is set to award three more direct contracts to SLLCs spanning five years and worth an estimated $55 million. A fourth SLLC, Al Haditha Petroleum Services, has already begun work on a significant flowline replacement programme starting at PDO's Yibal site.
