Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement in which Iranian natural gas will be exported to its Arab neighbour through two separate routes, Javad Owji said.

The official also stated that Iran has delivered 20 mcm of natural gas per day to Iraq due to the previous contracts between the two countries. He also mentuioned that the construction of the "Friendship" pipeline between Iran, Iraq and Syria has been in progress since last year.

"Friendship" pipeline, once completeed, would be able to export natural gas to other Muslim countries like Jordan and Lebenon. It is designed to be started from Assaluyeh, close to the massive offshore South Pars Gas Field in the south, and will go on into Iraq to supply Iraqi power plants operationg by gas.

The South Pars Gas Field, which is shared with Qatar, possesses approximately 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, which means 8 percent of the world's total reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of liquified natural gas resources.

Moreover, During his last visit to Iraq, Iranian oil minister, Rostam Qasemi and his Iraqi counterpart have agreed upon signing a deal based on which Iran would deliver 4 million liter of condensates from Bandar-e-Abbas refinery to Iraq through the Sea.

Iran which holds the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is making efforts to boost its gas output by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in South Pars Gas Field.
