The Iranian experts have already achieved the technical know-how to successfully make and install the tie spool piece of the underwater pipelines with the production platforms, Afshin Parsaii, an official at the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) said on Saturday.

The operation was carried out for the first time ever in the country’s offshore oil and gas industry through completing the 30-inch export pipeline of Salman project, he added.

Iran is the first regional country achieving implementation of this operation, since a limited number of the foreign companies active in the region can carry out it, Parsaii noted.

Elaborating on the process of operation, the official stated, this tie spool is formed of three curved pieces, and had to be carefully installed by using six 30-inch flanges in the depth of 67 meters, between end of platform’s riser and end of export pipeline.

He further explained that the first piece was built in yard No. 1 of IOEC in Khorramshahr and was carried to the sea for installation. Following installation of the first piece and implementation of precise metrological operation, the workshop maps of the two other pieces were prepared, which were installed in the same depth.

Referring to Salman project, Parsaii named its different parts as the basic and detailed engineering, purchasing the materials required for concreting and pipe-laying, plus coating. Pipe-laying in the internal and export areas, subsea pipes work-over, installing pipelines in the platforms, testing the pipelines, and cabling are also included, he noted.

So far, 87 percent of the project has been successfully implemented, the official concluded.
