Senex Energy Limited commenced development drilling at Worrior oil field over the weekend with the spudding of Worrior-8 in southern Cooper Basin permit PPL 207 (Senex 70% and operator, Cooper Energy 30%).
Ensign Rig 48 commenced drilling on Saturday 22 June and is drilling ahead to a total depth of 1,780 metres, targeting the Murta Formation, 236 metres south west of Worrior-1.
Worrior-8 is one of two wells that will be drilled at the oil field in the September quarter and the first well of a substantial oil drilling program that will be undertaken across Senex’s Cooper Basin permits into 2013/14.
The objectives of this well are to assess the productivity potential of the Murta formation, test for unswept oil in the Hutton sandstone and Birkhead formation, and test for gas in the Patchawarra formation. Senex plans to cut 36 metres of core from the Murta Formation which is productive in offset fields and has been proven to contain oil at Worrior but never produced.
Drilling, coring and logging is expected to take approximately 18 days.
