Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced that it has completed the delivery of two Kawasaki Green Gas Engines for the first LNG terminal in Singapore. These engines are the first to be supplied outside Japan.

The two Kawasaki Green Gas Engines feature an electrical output of 7,800 kW and the world’s highest electrical efficiency of 49.0%. Kawasaki received the order for the engines in December 2011 from EUROASIATIC MACHINERY (S) PTE. LTD., which is the Engineering, Procurement and Commissioning contractor for the Gas Engine Generator Project in the Singapore terminal. The electricity generated by these gas engines will be for captive use at the LNG terminal.

Following installation and commissioning by EUROASIATIC MACHINERY, the gas engines will be handed over to the terminal operator, Singapore LNG Corporation Pte. Ltd.

Singapore has decided to import LNG with a view to diversifying its energy supply sources to enhance its energy security. The country is now building an LNG terminal on Jurong Island, located to the southwest of Singapore’s mainland. The LNG terminal will have an initial throughput capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) when it enters into operation in the second quarter of 2013. In the end, the terminal will have an annual capacity of over 6 million tonnes.
