Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced that it has received an order for one in-ground LNG storage tank from Toho Gas Co., Ltd. Boasting a world’s largest-class capacity of 220,000 kl, this LNG storage tank is scheduled to go into service in 2016 at Toho Gas's Chita Midorihama Works.

The Chita Midorihama Works currently has two LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 200,000 kl. With this new order, Toho Gas aims to boost its LNG storage capacity and further stabilize the supply of utility gas.

Since the delivery of its first in-ground LNG storage tank in 1982 and aboveground tank in 1983, Kawasaki has outfitted Japan with every type of LNG tank on the market, including single/double/full containment tanks, in-pit tanks, PC tanks, as well as in-ground and underground membrane tanks. Kawasaki has also been involved in international LNG tank construction projects in Korea and elsewhere. To date, there are 31 Kawasaki-built LNG tanks in successful operation around the world.

Kawasaki will continue to build on its track record by further expanding its energy storage business around the world, with a focus on cryogenic storage tanks.
