The Iranian National Gas Company will increase the capacity of Iran's natural gas storage to 30 mcm/d as the Shourijeh storage facility comes on-stream in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2014), said a top energy official.
Masoud Samivand, who is also the Managing Director of Natural Gas Storage Company (NGSC), said on Sunday that Iran's second largest gas storage facility will be operational in November.
"Given the vast potentials expected to be provided by the Shourijeh gas storage facility for upstream and refinery sectors, nearly 20 mcm/d of recovered gas will be added to the gas storage and refining capacity of the country to reach 30 mcm/d," said the official.
Shourijeh gas storage facility, which is located in the Northeastern province of North Khorassan, is totally designed, built, installed and operated by the NGSC, Samivand further stressed.
He also said that by the time the vast storage facility comes on-stream, Iran will become the Middle East's second and the world's one of the first five countries holding the highest gas storage facilities.
The official said that NGSC has also built another gas storage facility in Sarajeh in the Central city of Qom.
