Italy has taken first post-sanctions delivery of crude oil from Iran, director for international affairs at National Iranian Oil Company has said.

“The first cargo of Iran’s crude oil has been exported to Italy,” Mohsen Qamsari said.

He, however, added that Iran does not owe 2 billion dollars to the Italian company Eni.

Qamsari was reacting to a Wall Street Journal report that Tehran has to pay 2 billion dollars to Eni for the development of Iranian oil fields in 2012.

Foreign companies pulled out of Iran as the United States and the European Union imposed tough sanctions against Iran’s oil sector in 2012.
