The national Company of Marketing and Distribution of Petroleum Products (NAFTAL) considers setting up a refinery unit for used industrial oils which are, until now, exported, said Thursday in Algiers Minister of Energy Youcef Yousfi.
“Naftal is currently studying the possibility to create a refinery for the treatment of used (industrial) oils,” said Yousfi in a session devoted to oral questions at the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament).
Meanwhile, he added, the country will continue to export these used oils to the international markets.
In a reply to a question on the fact that Algeria loses annually considerable quantities of used oils from notably oil activities, the minister said that Naftal recovers 18,000 tons of these oils every year.
He added that the investment in the refining of these used oils has been opened since 1996.
In addition, the minister said that this ambitious programme for the construction of many oil refineries was being conducted by his ministerial department, adding that the technical offers are being assessed for the construction of new refineries, including one in Illizi.
