Diplomat Addresses US-Angola Chamber of Commerce

The Angolan ambassador to the United States of America, Agostinho Tavares, was the main speaker at the meeting of the US-Angola Chamber of Commerce, held at University Club in Washington, DC. This is contained in a note released by the Angolan diplomatic representation in that country.

According to the source, during the annual event, the Board of Directors of that organisation reviewed the working plan and elected the new governing body of their activities. Among the new members elected for a one-year term, ending in January 2016, are Banco Privado Atlântico (BPA), The Dow Company, GE, LCF & Associates, PetroAfrica and Standard Bank.

Reappointed as members of the Board for another three-year term were the Angolan Investment Bank (BAI), Banco Fomento Angola (BFA), BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and GoodWorks International.

The mandate of these companies is set to end in January 2018. The Chevron will chair the Board. While, BP was elected Vice President, ExxonMobil as Secretary and the Angolan Investment Bank (BAI) as Treasurer.

In his speech, Jeannine Scott, president of US-Angola Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the ambassador Agostinho Tavares on behalf of members of institution he leads. The main objective is to promote the country's image in US society by reporting the current investment opportunities, thus arousing the interest of American companies and renowned businessmen to invest in Angola.

The Angolan diplomat speech was preceded by a video showing the potential that the country offers in the various sectors of national life and the main objectives of the National Development Plan (PND) 2013-2017. In his speech, the Angolan diplomat emphasised the importance of private investment in the development of Angola.
