BMT Reliability Consultants Attends Railtex 2015

A team of experts from BMT Reliability Consultants (BMT) will be attending Railtex 2015 to give delegates the opportunity to discuss how their performance and cost effectiveness can be improved using risk based techniques. BMT has worked at all levels in the rail industry, alongside both Train Operating Companies (TOC) and Rolling Stock Operating Companies (ROSCO), in the UK and abroad for over 20 years. The company’s depth of knowledge and experience in the sector includes writing both the original UK National Fleet Reliability Improvement Programme (N-FRIP), the Twenty Point Plan Document (CR/TP1203) for the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), and continued to support the latter until Issue 2. With a proven record of developing and implementing asset optimisation and system assurance services to its clients, BMT provides long term independent advice based upon a deep understanding of how the industry is structured and how it operates.

Availability is analysed and increased by formulating and delivering optimised maintenance strategies at vehicle and fleet levels. BMT delivers maintenance optimisation for clients by developing the most cost effective and worthwhile preventive maintenance regime for rolling stock and associated equipment using an approach utilising knowledge and expertise gained in other industries and in particular Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), a methodology originally developed in the aerospace industry. Using this approach, BMT has achieved significant benefits for its rail clients, with a significant improvement in reliability performance coupled with a 30% reduction in preventive maintenance workload for one fleet of electric locomotives.

BMT’s system assurance service encompasses the development and authoring of policy and the delivery of an independent review of products and process against policy. Using a wide range of established, robust and proven techniques, including business reviews and process improvement, BMT advises its clients on many aspects of rail business, change management, managing risk and uncertainty, and troubleshooting. BMT is also regularly engaged by its clients to undertake independent reviews and audits of company business processes, TOC Maintenance Compliance, Supplier Accreditation and assist them to improve output effectiveness.

Delivering added value by means of practical technical expertise, BMT provides through-life engineering support from concept design and construction, through operations and life extensions / upgrades, and out to disposal. Drawing on in-house knowledge of both the financial and technical aspects of the rail industry and experience of best practice from other industry sectors including defence, aerospace and the nuclear industry, BMT’s processes are fully documented, and all decisions and advice are fully traceable and auditable.
