Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A (PDVSA) announces that a fire broke out at Tiguadare Gas Treatment Plant of the Cardon IV license, in the state of Falcon, managed by transnational corporations Eni (Italy) and Repsol (Spain).

The incident occurred due to the rupture of a fuel gas system heater at the production train of this facility which is currently in its testing phase. No human or material losses were reported.

However, there was a decrease of 150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) in the supply to the domestic market during phase I of the project, which represents 6 % of domestic consumption. Faced with this situation and following corporate procedures, the affiliate PDVSA Gas immediately activated the contingency plan in order to ensure the supply of gas to the thermoelectrical, domestic and industrial sectors of western Venezuela.

Government security agencies in coordination with PDVSA staff are on site conducting investigations. Currently, the situation is under control and in the coming hours Cardon IV gas operations will be back to normal.

PDVSA calls for calm as production of the Cardon IV license, operated by international partners, is highly secure and reliable. It is managed by highly specialized personnel who provide a service for the benefit of the community.
