American Society for Quality (ASQ) MENA Regional Quality Conference, organised by MCI, kicks off on Wednesday at The Ritz Carlton, Dubai, UAE. MCI Middle East and ASQ joined hands together to bring quality community under one roof in Dubai to assist in developing and maintaining standards on quality, environment, dependability, statistics and social responsibility.
Dr. Ahmad Al Nuseirat, Coordinator General, Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP), addressed on the occasion as a keynote and highlighted achievements of the program established under the auspices of HH Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai to improve the practices, results and overall performance of the government sector in Dubai.
Dr. Nuseirat said that after the excellence program, the public sector began to excel the private sector and became more proficient, creative & transparent. Moreover, it strengthened government mechanisms to be more transparent and establish monitoring of sections that do administrative and financial transactions. Government departments in Dubai have shifted from operating in the traditional public sector mode to operating in a very competitive corporate mode leading to improved services and enhanced customer satisfaction, which went up from 63% in 2005 to 91% in 2014.
The government program offers a comprehensive reference for excellence in government performance in general and for innovation activities in particular. This reference enabled government departments to assess the gap between current practices and the world class best practices, and work towards bridging this gap. The program provides free consultancy services by giving feedback reports to Government Departments on how to further improve their performance. As a result of its success, DGEP has gained regional recognition, thus, other countries started applying the same model by using Dubai as a regional role model.
Mark Olson, Program Manager ASQ USA commented on the occasion that "ASQ MENA Regional Quality conference brings together a group of dedicated professionals who understand that quality and continuous improvement are very powerful enablers to operational and organizational excellence. The exchange of knowledge at a forum like this is an extremely important method to not only share information but also to learn from others. ASQ is so pleased to be part of and contribute to the success of this inaugural event."
Ajay Bhojwani, Managing Director, MCI Middle East also commented on the occasion, “We take pride in organising the first ever ASQ conference with our international partner that has brought up to date content and classic quality principles to this region. Benchmark studies and expertise conveyed through this annual conference will benefit quality professionals in adopting the latest practices and improve the overall quality and performance of their organisation.”
Over 200 quality professionals are attending two day conference in Dubai with sessions focused on quality and process improvement in healthcare, government, Oil & Gas and Education sectors. This is the first ever conference organised by American society of quality in Middle East along with its MENA chapter for the people who are dedicated to quality.
