The Central Nueva Renca was the place chosen by the National Petroleum Company (ENAP) and AES Gener to sign an agreement to supply natural gas for power generation which will be paid during 2016.
In this regard, Marcelo Tokman, General Manager of ENAP said that "the signing of this agreement with AES Gener is in line with one of the objectives of the government's energy agenda, and we have incorporated in our Strategic Plan, which is to promote the use of natural gas in Chile's energy matrix. "
Luis Felipe Ceron, CEO of AES Gener said that "the company echoed the objectives of the energy agenda driven by Pacheco minister and we are signing this medium-term contract as a sign of this commitment. We expect further progress in exploring new agreements with Enap to realize the goal of positioning competitive natural gas as a fuel within the energy matrix.
Ceron added that this agreement allows us to ensure the release of our Central Nueva Renca, mainly during the winter months, a period in which the demand for electricity increases.
The agreement will allow AES Gener use natural gas in its Central Nueva Renca and ENAP put important part of its regasification capacity and availability of LNG for that period.
Nueva Renca power plant is a combined cycle 379 MW of installed capacity. It has 2 generating units, a gas turbine and a steam turbine combined cycle power supplying the Central Interconnected System.
