In the highly competitive global maritime industry, winning a new project requires foresight, planning, a strong ability to execute, and a little bit of risk. Offshore living quarter specialist, HB Rentals announces a new temporary living quarters accommodation project on the Far Sentinel, a 15,000 gross ton subsea Construction / Inspection, Maintenance and Repair vessel owned and managed by Farstad Shipping ASA of Aalesund, Norway.
The 84 POB temporary living quarters consists of seven (7) A60 – ABS/USCG 12 Man Sleeper modules and one (1) Change Room module. Additional scope includes sewage lift pumps, fire detection panel, 1500 gallon MSD sewage unit, transformer distribution skid, and stairs and porches. In order to meet the end-use client’s project requirements, the TLQ compliments a 130 POB permanent living quarters on the Far Sentinel, which with its 1,800 square meter deck area is capable of operating in up to 3,000 meters water depth and features two offshore cranes (350t and 50t SWL) and two ROVs (Remote Operating Vehicles).
The unique challenge of this project was the extremely tight time window Farstad had to select a Temporary Living Quarters supplier, engineer the solution, obtain regulatory approval, install the entire complex with platforms and stairs and then reach the project site in offshore Mexico. To accelerate the process, a detailed site survey took place in Newcastle, England by an Aberdeen based HB Rentals Project Manager – a step necessary to start the bid process – before the vessel sailed on to port in Louisiana, USA. As Farstad was pressed for time to meet the delivery schedule, the challenge was to ensure they were in position to execute on the work with the time available. “Farstad had the exceptional ability to drive the project and was an excellent client partner as we jointly created the specs, designed the solution, achieved MA and DNVGL Class approvals and installed on board. They did this in record time”, said John Nagel, Vice President of Product Development.
Farstad has previously operated subsea vessels in Offshore Mexico and is pleased to be back in the market. The planned project work with the Far Sentinel offers the opportunity to bring Farstad’s expertise back into what has traditionally been one of the strongest offshore oil markets globally. The HB Rentals Ciudad del Carmen operating and service facility is available to service the Far Sentinel’s temporary living quarter complex as needs arise, which is essential to maintaining operational quality given the subsea vessels expected multi-year deployment.
